Meet Our People | Jonathan Lougheed
Every month, we will be featuring one of our employees to give you a better look at the people powering Special Counsel and D4. This month, we are focusing on Jonathan Lougheed, Manager, Litigation Support Analysts, at D4.
1. How did you get into eDiscovery?
Lougheed: I studied Economic Crime Investigation at Utica College of Syracuse University and was looking for opportunities at a local job fair when I met D4's John Clingerman, Vice President, Forensics Services Group, at the D4 booth. I had interned at the Utica Police Department under Sgt. Anthony Martino who has some previous interactions with John and a connection was made. Denise Palis, Data Operations Scheduling and Training Coordinator at D4, when I came to interview, signed me in and told me upon meeting me that I had the job. Little did I know I’d still be here 9-and-a-half years later and have worked pretty much the entire EDRM. I started in what we called "Data Reduction" at the time and had performed a few collections, then one day Peter Coons came to me and asked if I wanted to “do processing”. When I asked what that was, he told me “you’re smart, you’ll figure it out”. I was essentially what is now known as a "Team Lead" for awhile before transitioning into the TAG role, at which time I started learning Relativity. That role eventually morphed into LSA, where I currently sit today.
2. What is your favorite part about your job at Special Counsel/D4?
Lougheed: Working with some amazing colleagues. There are a ton of creative, driven and incredibly smart people I work with daily. I’m always amazed at some of the ideas and solutions various team members come up with and how we often band together across teams to implement. I’m proud to say I work with people who I enjoy hanging out with outside of work. A group of us, including some former D4 employees, meet for breakfast, co-workers have come to my family's Memorial Day party, I recently attended Mike Boyle’s wedding reception and there is an occasional happy hour. It makes it a lot easier to come to work when you truly enjoy who you’re working with.
3. What is one workflow/tip that you think every client should know about?
Lougheed: For large scale review, Chad Jones, Director, Litigation Support Analysts, developed a fantastic TAR 2.0 workflow using Relativity and Brainspace that I would highly recommend. In general, though, reach out to us early in the process. We have a ton of very knowledgeable team members who, if involved at the onset of a project, can save you a lot of headaches.
4. What’s one thing you can’t live without?
Lougheed: My daily hugs when I get home. There is nothing like a little 18-month old screaming “Dada” and running up to you. This industry can be crazy at times, but no matter how stressful the day is, you kind of forget all that for a while.
