Since 1996, Peter Coons has worked in the legal technology field. As Sr. Vice President at D4, he focuses on consulting with clients about computer forensics and eDiscovery best practices. Peter has experience in social media discovery, computer forensics, engineering eDiscovery workflow for law firms and corporations, as well as orchestrating large-scale electronic data collections relating to litigation, audits, and regulatory requests. He also has experience with media restoration, processing and production of ESI, and various forensic and litigation support tools. Peter has testified as a computer forensic expert witness in both state and federal court, and has been appointed by a United States District Court as a neutral third party forensic examiner.

He has personally participated in, or overseen the collection and imaging of, thousands of computers, and has performed forensic analysis on hundreds of hard drives and other media. Prior to joining D4, Peter worked in New York City as a senior associate with Baker Robbins & Company, a technology consulting firm. At Baker Robbins, Peter was responsible for managing the digital forensics practice in the New York City market and providing electronic discovery consulting services to its clients. While at Baker Robbins and in conjunction with the New York City Law Department, he led a team that was responsible for collecting ESI from New York City agencies in response to the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Peter has also worked as the Operations Manager for a nationally recognized litigation support and electronic discovery vendor. At New York Life Insurance Company, he served as the Director of Systems for the Office of General Counsel, responsible for litigation support and technology delivery to 120 end users. Peter was also employed as a registered representative at a NYSE member firm, where he obtained Series 7, 63, and 24 licenses.

Peter is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®), an EnCase Certified Examiner, an AccessData Certified Examiner, a Certified Computer Examiner (computer forensic certificates) and is a member of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), the professional organization for persons involved in computer forensics. Peter was an adjunct professor at Finger Lakes Community College where he taught a course in computer forensics.

Peter holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the State University of New York at Oneonta and a graduate degree in Digital Forensic Management from Champlain College.
